The good people at Don Julio tequila (www.donjulio.com) recently hosted an elegant tasting and dinner party at an amazing home in Beverly Hills. Don Julio has changed the bottles and packaging of their products while launching a marketing campaign dubbed the Luxury Drop. The Luxury Drop brings together the concepts of shots and high-end mixology in a unique hybrid, creating premium specialty cocktails in smaller portions. In order to publicize the changes, and gather tequila enthusiasts, they hosted parties in key markets around the country. The Beverly Hills event featured signature cocktails created by Nicholas Vitulli, mixologist at Eveleigh restaurant in West Hollywood, and a custom designed menu prepared by renowned chef Ilan Hall. A good Tequila can make a great margarita, but to truly enjoy it, it should be tried straight. Corzo (www.corzo.com) makes three fine tequilas, each with its own unique quality and characteristics. To showcase their products, Corzo hosted a tasting that paired fine cheeses and chocolates with the tequila. Needless to say, I was particularly skeptical about the chocolates. Sure, pair chocolate and cheese with wines, but tequila? Not something I would have considered before this night.
