On May 1, 2012, a unique live music event will take place at Generations Hall in New Orleans. Some of the greatest local, regional and national musicians in America have joined forces to support the reelection campaign of President Barack Obama. This grass-roots effort is called "New Orleans Musicians for Obama" and is sure to be one of the most memorable events of this election year.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (www.nojazzfest.com) annually falls on the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May. Musicians and fans from around the world come to town for a celebration of music, food and culture. This year’s festival happens to coincide with a national presidential election, so a few New Orleans residents with strong musical, cultural and political affiliations saw an opportunity to do something special to support President Obama’s reelection campaign (www.barackobama.com/). Gaynielle Neville (singer and wife of Cyril Neville) and retired business executive Jimmy Anselmo (owner of Jimmy’s Music Club) got together with Diane Ireland (World Peace: Live and New Orleans Musicians Clinic) and Jan Ramsey (the publisher of "Offbeat" magazine). They personally called each musician asking for their participation. The positive responses have made the lineup a veritable who’s who of New Orleans music, featuring Tab Benoit, Irvin Mayfield, the Neville Family, Dr. John, Zigaboo Modeliste, Leo Nocentelli, Dumpstaphunk, Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Vidacovich, Anders Osborne, Kermit Ruffins, Marcia Ball, George Porter, Jr., Trombone Shorty and many more. The organizers are keeping the exact music schedule a secret, but with this incredible lineup something magical is sure to happen.

For music lovers and Obama supporters (or even non-supporters), this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience some unique musical collaborations, mingle with some of New Orleans’ business leaders and discuss issues with political heavyweights. The event starts at 6PM and is expected to go until 2AM. Tickets are available in advance at http://neworleansmusicians4obama.eventbrite.com/. Several vendors will be offering delicious food and beverages will also be available throughout the night (both for additional charges). There will also be an auction of memorabilia including signed prints, tee-shirts, caps, posters and additional collectables. Proceeds from the event go to benefit the Obama For America Fund, the president’s main campaign effort.
