How many projects does Stanton Moore juggle at one time? I don’t know the answer, but I am happy to see him live in any configuration. The renowned drummer of the funk/rock/jazz group Galactic (www.galacticfunk.com) brought one of his other groups, an instrumental quartet known as Garage A Trois (www.garageatrois.net), to the Mint in Los Angeles (http://www.themintla.com/) on August 14, 2010. This band plays an eclectic blend of jam, rock, and electronica that highlights the unique skills of the four musicians.

The group started out in 1999 as a trio with Charlie Hunter on guitar, and Skerik on Saxaphone. Mike Dillon, with his array of vibraphone and percussion toys, joined the group in 2002. Hunter left the band in 2007, and Marco Benevento joined as his replacement. Benevento’s keyboard explorations changed the band’s dynamic, but his ability to transition between carrying the bass line and playing some dynamic solos has energized the sound. Garage A Trois melds the brilliant musicianship of four guys that are each stars, but leave their egos at the door, to produce a sonic synchronicity.Marco Benevento on Keyboards and Skerik On Saxaphone At The Garage A Trois ShowMarco Benevento on keyboards and Skerik on saxaphone at the Garage A Trois show.

The sold out show at the Mint featured music that crossed genres and had the excited crowd bouncing. Skerik, the default band spokesman, got everyone riled up with shout outs, and some mind bending sax solos. Dillon and Benevento each produced exotic sounds from their respective instruments, and Moore, as always, pounded out a sonic boom of rhythm on his drum kit. With a new album, Power Patriot, recently released, the band members signed copies and greeted the audience. Moore seems to keep juggling bands, live performances, recording sessions, and drum clinics. His tireless work ethic and continued drum brilliance keep his fans, this one included, happy and amazed. Next time he comes through town with one of his many bands, check him out. You’ll be amazed too.Mike Dillon On Vibraphone At The Garage A Trois ShowMike Dillon on vibraphone at the Garage A Trois show.
